ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act)

Federal law requiring disability accommodations including leave.

Definition

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities and requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations, which may include leave. Unlike FMLA with its 12-week limit, ADA leave can extend beyond 12 weeks if it's a reasonable accommodation and doesn't cause undue hardship.

Legal Context

Applies to employers with 15+ employees. Leave may be required as a reasonable accommodation even if the employee doesn't qualify for FMLA.
